UK trio '3bpm' comprises Martin Pickett (piano), Paul Jeffries (bass) and Ben Twyford (drums). Their music captures the essence of European jazz but adds layers of passion and rhythm normally associated with the tightest of US jazzers.
The debut album 'FIRST HEARING' features a strikingly conceived programme of pop and folk jazz tracks plus three excellent originals by Pickett. Elvis Costello's "Baby Plays Around" proves surprisingly amenable to a jazz treatment, while the simple structures of "Scarborough Fayre" yield a totally convincing re-composition. Pat Metheny's "The Red One" gets a catchy, funky interpretation. Highly original playing and great entertainment - a must see at this year's festival.
